Slow Pulp - Melodie. LP [Blue Vinyl]
Slow Pulp feel like they have the kind of pure clarity that can only come with time. Since 2015 the Wisconsin four piece have dabbled in the same kind of dreamy, effervescent indie pop that made Soccer Mommy, Phoebe Bridgers and Alvvays household names.
There’s always been a gentle familiarity with their melancholy, lovesick songwriting, like they could soundtrack some of the prettiest moments of your life. Now on their third album, ‘Melodie’ finds the band dialling up that emotionally charged awareness up to 11 and with a newfound swagger and style to match. Like a fresh coat of paint on your favourite car, they simply just feel cooler the time around.
‘Melodie’ also marks the first time the band have worked with an outside producer after two albums of the bands own Henry Stoehr ordinarily taking the reigns.
Introducing Sleeping in the Aviary’s Elliot Kozel (Rosalía, Yves Tumor, Björk) into the fold was a tough decision, but one that ultimately pays off. He brings an expansive state of mind to the fold, helping push the band to lean just that little bit further into a bigger, brighter sound.
This feels like the truest expression of Slow Pulp’s heavenly, reverb drenched crush to date. With a batch of perfect pop songs disguised behind uproars of distortion and feedback they somehow end up managing to sound more polished and clear than ever before.
