Some bands just get it right from the get go, which is very much the case for Melbourne cult rock heroes Eddy Current Suppression Ring.
Born from a spontaneous jam after a work Christmas party for a record plant, they truly laid the “no nonsense” foundation and blueprint that bands like Royal Headache and Amyl & The Sniffers would go onto occupy. Very much a totally streamlined version of punk and garage rock that relies solely on the weight of its stellar writing to prop it up. No frills, all heart.
Never quite fully disappearing, the band would play the occasional reunion show here or there, often existing and operating completely at their own controlled pace. Earlier this year on the 26th of May that 7 year long musical silence was finally broken with the bands 5th album ‘In Light of Recent Events’.
Wasting no time, they come out the gates swinging, reminding you exactly why you fell in love. Deadpan barks of vocalist Brendan Huntley bubble along while Brad Barry and brothers Mikey & Daniel Young never miss a beat as they steamroll through the album with a raucous energy.
Everything is exactly where its ment to be, crunchy and relentless guitars, pinpoint drums and booming bass to hold it all together. With ‘In Light of Recent Events’ Eddy Current Suppression Ring have added yet another diamond into their already stellar and unmatched catalog.
