Jason Campbell’s Collector project distills all of his heavy electronic visions into a pure, sonically dense collection of tracks, each bouncing off one another, building to make something greater than the sum of its parts.
All the hallmarks of his previous industrially charged work is still there; Pulsating bass coils around sinister synth work, all propped up by percussion delivered with pinpoint accuracy. But where ‘Knowing Only Defeat’ separates itself from the rest is in it’s ability to continuously grow these moments of chaos into a completely balanced world that envelopes you gradually.
While there’s this undercurrent of dread that is almost suffocating at times he lets just enough light through the cracks to give you hope. At this point it’s clearer than ever, Campbell is operating at the peak of his powers.
