Purplene S/T. LP [Limited Coke Bottle Clear Vinyl / Edition of 100]
One of our all-time favourite Australian albums is finally available on Vinyl.
“Seeing Purplene live for the first time late 90’s Newcastle felt like a truly significant discovery... who?, how? WTF!! These guys are local? They’re like the long lost lovechild of Superchunk and Pavement but with an unmistakably Novocastrian tendency. How could this be? I want in! Oh and their guitars bend like The Swirlies and those vocals float like early L’Altra. Oh dear… I’m hooked!
Their local residencies over the coming years became a damn near religious experience… A handful of cassettes, an Ep, and the debut full lengther’ later, they present the 2004 self-titled masterpiece ‘Purplene', fittingly recorded & mixed by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio Chicago.
A perfectly measured slice of angular Australian indie guitar rock stuff… considered, articulate, close, clever, curious, rich and laden with beautifully understated pop hooks. Cue “Second Shift”. How this album didn’t explode on a global scale will forever defy explanation, it will however, go down as a vital & true Australian indie classic”. ✨ Highly Recommended ✨
