Album number 8 is Kevin Morby’s next grand moment. Since the release of his solo debut 'Harlem River' back in 2013 he has been subtly refining his alt-country and gospel shaded brand of folk music, slowly but surely sanding down it's edges and becoming one of the most consistent songwriters of the 2010's and beyond.
Arriving as the conclusion of a sonic trilogy all looking to catalogue his time spent in America's Midwest after moving back to his native Kansas City, Little Wide Open takes stock in the small beauties and unintentional musicality of the land around him. The gentle hum of cicadas in the evenings, tornado siren screams and freight trains passing by all soundtrack and occupy the soul's of these songs in their own special way.
Sonically this is might be the best he's sounded since 2016's Singing Saw, recruiting the keen eye of The National's Aaron Dessner on production duties. Little Wide Open is a gorgeously crafted reminder to enjoy the ride of time, and right now Morby is riding shotgun.
