Geese - Getting Killed. LP [Violet Vinyl]
There’s very few artists that could have a song where during its chorus the frontman manically wails “There’s a bomb in my car!!” and not only get away with it but it somehow ends up sounding endearing. Geese frontman Cameron Winter is on a roll in 2025 and that might just be the biggest understatement of the year to say the least. After his beautiful, heartwarming piano ballad driven solo record ‘Heavy Metal’ blew up all eyes seemed to be firmly placed on the next release from his main band, the unapologetic, rambunctious and truly one of a kind Geese.
After releasing one of the best and original rock records in recent memory with 2023’s 3D Country the sky seemed truly the limit for Geese. I can’t remember a time where a band felt this invested in taking high stakes risks all the time and with them all being musicians of the highest caliber they more often than not pay off in the biggest way possible. Now on their third album and showing zero signs of slowing down, ‘Getting Killed’ is a beast of a record and an apocalyptic take on the grim reality of life in the USA right now.
While Getting Killed doesn't immediately sound like a total successor to 3D Country, it is an incredible display of rock n roll prowess and controlled chaos and really gives a compelling argument for them being one of the last true great rock acts of our time. Winter sounds downright religious at times delivering outrageous lyrics again and again on tracks like ‘Trinidad’, ‘Islands of Men’ and the title track he manages to tip toe the line of sounding wildly insane and genuinely sincere at the same time. I can't remember a frontman in recent times more compelling than him. Getting Killed is a statement of intent from Geese and will easily go down as a defining moment for 2025 and beyond.
