The second album from Maryland singer songwriter and artist Dijon seemed to come out of nowhere, one day a countdown appeared on his site that read "until the album Baby (unless samples don’t get cleared)". 'Baby' comes after an extremely fruitful year for Dijon, working alongside Bon Iver on his 'Sable Fable' album and with his band member and seemingly musical ‘yin to his yang’ Mk.gee on the “Swag” sessions that would make up the two albums from pop star Justin Bieber. Now add becoming a new father into the mix which serves as the albums focal point and how Dijon found the time to create an album that goes toe to toe with all the best releases of this year is a wonder in itself.

'Baby' continues his knack for taking pop, rob and soul and totally breaking it apart, smashing it to bits and rebuilding it in his own unique form. Featuring production from Andrew Sarlo, music from Mk.gee and additional help from BJ Burton, Henry Kwapis, Tommy King, and Tobias Jesso Jr what we're left with is a futuristic and bombastic approach to pop music which just as quickly as he comforts you with a smooth and straight forward section he rips the table cloth from under you and throws you into a labyrinth of distortion and samples that slice into the mix in a similar vein to what fellow purveyor of eclectic and warped sonics Jai Paul was doing back in 2011.

Maybe the album's most captivating moment comes in the form of the heartbreaking "Rewind" where he battles internally with himself about the massive undertaking of starting a family and the huge responsibility that comes with it, giving a gut-wrenching vocal performance that few others really could. Now of course there are obvious influences to his style like Prince, Micheal Jackson and D'angelo but its Dijon's unrelenting mission to push these songs to their absolute limits that makes him such a competing and uncompromising one of a kind artist and 'Baby' the best body of work he's put out to date.
