Adam Newling - The Bloody Unknown. LP [Ltd. Signed Doggy Bag Splatter Vinyl]
From the very first moments you hear the euphoric howls of Newcastle's Adam Newling's debut record 'The Bloody Unknown' it's immediately clear that this is a special moment. Tapping into the same kind jubilant, stadium sized indie rock the made The War on Drugs, Sam Fender & Gang of Youths so captivating Newling takes no prisoners here, grabbing his moment by the scruff of it's neck and not looking back. This record is absolutely riddled with catchy singalong choruses that are destined to be screamed back at him across the summer festival run, with just enough nostalgia laced throughout for it to feel like a record you've known for years.
'The Bloody Unknown' basks in all of love's beautiful little intricacies, offering up the kind of wide eyed gaze that can only come with those moments of pure affirmation and joy. Continuing to build on what made him great to begin with, Newling swings between high charged moments of thumping indie rock and a softer alt-country glow. With his raspy, powerhouse vocals cutting through all the noise, he balances these snapshots of a simpler life with the urgency of someone that's got everything to lose. 'The Bloody Unknown' is undoubtedly one of the best releases to come out of Australia this year, and while it does wears its influences on its sleeve, Newling still manages to conjure up a different kind of magic throughout, truly setting himself apart from the rest.
