Sunbeam Sound Machine is the solo musical project of Melburnian, Nick Sowersby. He writes it, plays it, and records it all in his home studio, and the resulting work is damn good. What began as an exploratory recording process to document Sowersby's musical ideas has now evolved into a fully formed album and one of the best Australian releases of 2019.
Tape delayed guitars like faded polaroid holiday snaps stretch and fold over faded, soft-focus string and synth canvases giving the album a nostalgic Super-8 home-movie character. It’s a remarkable accomplishment to be able to distil this focused sense of sentimentality across an entire album and one that Sowersby seems to pull off so effortlessly. Goodness Gracious really is a warm and fuzzy listen and one to check out.
